When Storms Come

Have you ever been in the middle of a storm? With it raging all around you? Where there is no clarity or feelings of peace? I have. And guess what? It’s been more than once, even more than twice. Let’s just say, I’ve experienced my share of storms…and so will you.

Sometimes the storms we face come on fast and strong, then seem to quickly pass and fade away. When things clear up, our outlook on life is often brighter and we have learned something from our storm to use in our future. Just be careful not to hang onto that last drop of rain, doubting that the storm has really ended or never learning anything from it.

Then at other times, the storm we are in the midst of, intensifies over a period of time and reaches a climax that seems unbearable to us. As the winds howl and things continue to pour down, we can completely loose our focus and even our footing. We try to make sense of our waves of emotions and we rely too much on ourselves to weather the storm out.

Whether it’s a thunder storm that we’ve anticipated and been able to plan for, or the dreaded torrential down pouring that happens without warning in our life…our God remains the same and He has the power to calm all of them! Our anchor has to be secured through Him alone.

If you happen to be in any kind of storm right now (big or little) Remember, that He is the only anchor that will hold. He is sure, certain and safe. He (our anchor and our hope) is steadfast, firm and reliable.

It is not in our own confidence that anchors our soul, but the sure reality and belief that Gods promises for us are true. This is our anchor. And this is what we are to lay hold of when our feet may begin to stumble or wander within our storm.

When we put our trust in Christ, our eternal hope, we can make it through any storm that may come our way.

How do we lay hold of something, when we are drenched in the middle of uncertainty?

I too am practicing this…but here are 5 things that have helped me in the midst of the many storms I have faced and am still learning from.

1. Read your bible! You have to know without certainty that your hope is in the eternal presence of God.

2. Pray! Ask God to open your mind and heart to hope in Him alone.

3. Remember how much Christ has suffered for you and your hope. (Wow… what an anchor right?)

4. Praise Him throughout the storm no matter what. Give Him praise for His Faithfulness, Strength, Wisdom, Mercy and Grace.

5. Think about other Christians (family & friends) who have weathered their storms holding onto their hope in Jesus. Lift up and encourage others. Share your testimony of faithfulness during and after your own storms.

May I suggest you start here:

Mathew 7:24-27 -Christ our solid rock

Hebrews 6:19 -Hope an anchor for our soul

Colossians 2:5 -He is with you

Psalm 107:28-31 and Matthew 8:26 -He calmed the storm

Nahum 1:7 -The Lord is good

Embrace yourself like Jesus

I am learning to embrace myself like Jesus embraces me!  I hope you can too!

God has brought me through so many (yes sooooo many) different life circumstances, hurts, and losses. There has literally been moments where I have questioned everything and times I didn’t know how to take any steps forward. But I came to realize, I will never embrace myself as my Jesus embraces me. No one could ever fully embrace me or love me as he does! Not even ME!

I do love myself, but I am “learning to embrace and love myself” just as he loves me! In every moment! Through every season! And on this new journey! I will rejoice with every step and with every triumph. Trusting him when I do not understand, and allowing him to use me through every moment of uncertainty, fear or doubt. I vow to give Him the glory and praise deserved each and every day, without having to know his plan and have all the answers ahead of time.

Looking back….I don’t know where I’d be without him or how I came this far! I was lost. But now I live thankful to have found his steadfast love and received his eternal embrace! He patiently waited for me to set my eyes upon him. He will continue to use every piece within me, that I may see as unworthy, if I give myself to him. He has taken every bit of “My Ugly” and loves me in-spite of it. He has turned the “Ugly” in my life (my hurts, doubts, fears, loss etc) and made them into something more beautiful than I could have ever imagined! Over the years, my life has definitely seen lot’s of ugly. But my life has….So Much More BEAUTY!

He’s not a quick or side huger!  He’s a God who fully embraces us and never let’s go!  He is a God of second chances. (and third and fourths) He is forgiving and kind. He is extremely devoted and fond of me…..and YOU!

With every situation I have persevered through, and as I learn to love myself like he loves me, It helps immensely to know….he will always be my Rock, my Calm, my Deliverer, my Healer, my Comforter, my Strength and my Friend!

We have been molded and formed by him through every situation and circumstance he has brought us through. Remember, he can and will use it all!  Let’s let him!  Let’s fix our eyes upon him!  Together we can continue to learn how to love and embrace ourselves fully……Just as he does!

Psalm 136:2 Give thanks to the God of gods, his love endures forever.

Live
Life is hard
Choices made
Clock does not turn back
Dream
Be thankful in the moments
Learn from the past
Live in the present
Look forward to the future
Trust
Have faith
Lean on Him for understanding
Live positive in all the negative
Find the beautiful in your ugly
Believe
Love others
Be an over-comer
Move forward in His grace
Live
Abundantly!

Reach for and cling to that dream!

Most of us have them. DREAMS.

Dream – Something good you hope for or want to achieve in the future

We grow up creating them on our own or trying to live out ones that have been planted inside of us by others. We REACH towards them differently depending on where we are in life and what is happening around us.  We can be reaching forward with very little excitement, while in the very next moment, be reaching with an aching desperation to achieve it. In order for you to obtain it one day, you just have to keep reaching!

There may be times we have to CLING to them. Not just REACH, but actually CLING to them.

Life’s circumstances and obstacles can make us feel as if our dreams are slipping away or too far out of our grasp. The deliberate steps we choose and take forward can seem to only be moving us backwards. But keep stepping! Keep reaching! Keep clinging!

It’s quite often that we need to lean on others as we move towards achieving our dreams. It’s ok. Adding a friend to dream with you will help you when you stumble or fall. It will also give you a person to rejoice with and encourage your every step along the way.  Be aware of the connections that God places in your life as you reach for and cling to whatever your dream is. Having others in your life to share it with, will help in the “waiting periods” that you may have to encounter. Trust Gods plan. Never doubt that he can take your dream and make it something more than you could have ever imagined.

I’ve dreamed. I’ve reached for… and I’ve clung to many different dreams over the years. I am so thankful for a God that is faithful and believes in me! He believes in you too!

He believes in us way more than we could ever believe in ourselves. He created us. He knows what we are capable of. And we can do all things through him.  He already knows the outcomes of the dreams that we are reaching for. He will be there to guide us. Seek him.  Some of our dreams may become distant memories for us before God chooses to reveal them to us again. Trust that his timing is perfect. Reach for and cling to that Dream!

I’m moving forward. Reaching and Clinging.

And I am trusting God with great anticipation!
